Nkechi-Vivien Commettant is the Founder and Managing Director of The Gneiss Way, TGW is a design-led construction management consultancy that offers consultancy services to project owners and main contractors. Their goal is to bridge the gap and eliminate the common barriers affecting the less represented minority in the industry. The purpose of this platform is to support individuals learning how to navigate as an emerging leader in the design and construction industry with the demands of a young family. She has over 15 years of leadership experience in pre-construction architectural design to construction and business strategy. Currently, Nkechi-Vivien is undertaking a PhD specialising in Corporate Social Responsibility in the construction industry supply chain - with a focus on Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.
How did Nkechi-Vivien find the programme?
”Before Back Her Business I found it easier to hide behind other people's business. I would struggle to persuade them to change their company culture to be more diverse and inclusive for people who look like me. However, through this programme I was able to build my confidence and to push my own agenda through The Gneiss Way. I decided it was time, I needed to lead by example and I started by building my contacts by attending conferences and online meetings to push my interest. The women on this programme have become my support network and friends I can rely on for business-related matters. The kind of friendships I have desired for a long time to happen in my life. The kind of environment I can be open-minded and share my ideas as I am developing it without being judged for it.”
