Joyce Manzira is the Founder and Managing Director of GSL Trade and Investments.
GSL works with the UK and African businesses to enter new markets to grow their customer base and build new supply chains. Joyce knows that building sustainable interdependent business relationships is the missing key when entering new markets. Technology has supported us to connect and link companies on both sides of the continent, in line with the Department for International Trade’s aim to promote UK business exports. She has 7 years of working experience in project management with an educational background in Construction and the Built Environment studied and certified at college.
How did Joyce find the programme?
“Before joining the Back Her Business program, I was stuck in a world of uncertainty. I had planned to start my business after Brexit and then when the COVID pandemic started, I really had no idea how to explore the start of my business, asking myself if it is still feasible.
Considering the program, I felt privileged to learn and share knowledge with professional black women who are inspired to start their business. During the program, I understood the meaning of being a black woman in business and how we are viewed/treated in a professional setting. We shared experiences of when and how we are misunderstood.
On reflection, all the subjects discussed were invaluable but what I most appreciate is the time from the speakers imparting their knowledge and willing to answer any questions on how they successfully started their businesses and all the lessons they learned and are still learning in the world of business.”
