Introducing James Hillier and Iman Salat, the Founders of Jikoni East Africa. Jikoni specialises in traditional East African inspired dishes from Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Tanzania. We are delighted that they are joining our Coach House community!
Why did you want to be set up at the Coach House?
Well what is there not to love! Not only a characterful historic building in a great location, but a big draw for us was the ethos of BSWN. We had been following them for some time and as luck would have it this great opportunity arose. We have always had a strong desire to incorporate more social enterprise into our business and the Coach House has given us the perfect venue and contacts to make that happen.
What is the history of Jikoni and what type of delicious food will you serve?
Jikoni came about really as the result of our relationship and love of food. As soon as we met, we would cook for each other almost every night and Iman would introduce me to these incredible new flavours and techniques that were such big part of her childhood growing up in Nairobi. From there, the idea evolved and with a lot of hard work here we are today.
How do you feel being part of the Coach House community?
It really is so great here! They have all been incredibly welcoming, such a good bunch, and, so many interesting businesses! So we are looking forward to getting to know everyone better!
This month Jikoni have been featured in Bristol 24/7 and the Bristol Post.
Come down to the Coach House and enjoy some delicious food, coffee and treats from this Wednesday the 2nd of March!
