Introducing Sally Balfourth, who, through her practice, provides an opportunity to connect with the inner world, move with curiosity, and appreciate your body from the outside in. Sally has been holding monthly yoga sessions with the BSWN in our Social Enterprise Incubator space to help us take a step out of our busy day and focus on our wellbeing.
How long have you been practicing yoga and why did you start your business?
I’ve been a committed practitioner for over a decade. I completed my first teacher training in 2015, driven by the urge to dive deeper into the practice and teachings. I guide practices that reflect my own ever-developing practice, often influenced by the changing tide of internal and universal cycles.
My work is all about supporting people to feel into their own investigations with their bodies, navigating both the discomfort and pleasure.
What do you think about the monthly sessions you hold with the team?
It’s a real joy to hold space for BSWN! I always commend teams that schedule activities to support staff wellbeing and create spaces for connection. Although everybody may have their own unique experience on their yoga mats, it is very much a collective experience too.
Do you work with people from Black and Minoritised communities?
Yes, throughout my career I've been drawn to working with diverse communities who for one reason or another may not ordinarily have had access to yoga. Many of these have been from marginalised identities.
Currently, I have the pleasure of guiding regular classes for Beyond the Mix who create spaces and openings for mixed heritage women to connect and share in Bristol.
I also work with Bristol Yoga Roots Project, a wonderful collection of humans working with communities and supporting teachers to offer socially inclusive yoga. Check them out!
