Green Skills for Work and Business

Powering the Green Industrial Revolution for aspirational young Black and Minoritised talent!

In the UK’s low carbon and renewable energy economy (manufacturing, construction, professional, scientific and technical activities, and electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply) 86.75% of employees when surveyed identified themselves as ‘White’ (86.75%). Also despite forming 22% of higher education student bodies, students from ethnic minority groups are consistently underrepresented in ‘green’ courses (such as geography, environmental conservation, and environmental sciences), where they make up fewer than 10% of enrolments. Those who have green skills will benefit from this Green Industrial revolution. Those who do not will face uncertain futures.

The UK government’s Ten Point Plan for the Green Industrial Revolution will attempt to mobilise £12 billion of government investment to create and support up to 250,000 new green jobs by 2030 and create 1,000 new apprenticeships. The Green Skills Programme is designed to enable young Black and Minoritised talent to explore those opportunities, bridge structural divides, and build bright new Green futures for themselves and others.
